Airfare Bargains/Airline sites (back to top)

Concierge.com Airline Sign-up
www.concierge.com/travel/c_planning/02_airfares/bargainsites.html

PlanetRider Says: Concierge.com has designed a handy page where you can sign up to receive Cyber Fare e-mails for a number of major airlines. All on one page! Thanks, Epicurious.

American Airlines
http://www.aa.com

PlanetRider Says: Catchy name for the program. Subscribe and receive weekly Net SAAver Fares, both national and international, sent every Wednesday for weekend travel. First class bargains available, too, as well as attractive vacation packages.

Continental Airlines
www.continental.com

PlanetRider Says: Subscribers receive weekly C.O.O.L Travel Specials, sent every Wednesday for weekend travel, or you can log on to the site for a look. E-mails are easy to decipher, and if you can travel within the specific dates you won't find lower fares. And you can buy them online!

Northwest
www.nwa.com

PlanetRider Says: Used to be you could only receive weekly Cyber Fares via e-mail, but these Northwest deals are now posted weekly. If you're traveling to or from one of their hubs (Minneapolis, Detroit, Memphis) these fares are hard to beat--and you'll always get a direct flight.

TWA
www.twa.com

PlanetRider Says: Sign up for weekly Trans World Specials, sent on Tuesdays, or click for the posting of weekly specials. Nice clean layout, and soon you'll be able to book online.

US Air
www.usairways.com

PlanetRider Says: View weekly E-Saver Fares on the site or sign up to receive them via e-mail every Wednesday (users can specify their favorite routes). Also take a look at their "US Airways Vacations" site: they have their own "Hot Deals" e-mail.

Airfare Bargains/Non-Airline sites (back to top)

Travelhub
www.travelhub.com

PlanetRider Says: Subscribe to Travelhub's newsletter or browse the site, but be aware that you must give them your e-mail address just to receive info for the specials you choose. Travelhub is an exhaustive resource with lots of travel agent input, consolidator fares, frequently updated specials, and extensive package listings. Also, search features by date, destination, or specialty, which may lead you to the discount travel agent of your dreams (they have tons of travel agent links).

Priceline
www.priceline.com

PlanetRider Says: If you'd like to give the auction process a try, Priceline is just the ticket, and anyone can play. Challenge them to meet your price, and you're obligated to buy since they only let you bid after you've given them a credit card number. Really in it's own category, but it will be interesting to see if other air discounters follow suit.

Cheap Tickets
www.cheaptickets.com

PlanetRider Says: Guests can browse and book by phone, but the premium updated specials are reserved for registered users. Good offers, presented in an easy to read and uncluttered fashion. Create a stored profile (including credit card info and flight preferences), and you can book online or over the phone. One of the discount airfare pioneers.

OneTravel
www.onetravel.com

PlanetRider Says: It's a fare-a-palooza! For prime airfare info, try "Last Minute Deals" and "Lowest Airfares". Also explore their specialty travel guides and links, from archeological adventures to yachting vacations. Sign up for airfare e-mail alerts, or try the vacation updates.

Travelocity
www.travelocity.com

PlanetRider Says: Very comprehensive "Fare Watcher" e-mail, as well as Hot Deals Club and Travelocity Newsletter. One of the best, with dozens of routes updated daily, low fare e-mails, and host of travel news, including up to date promotions for airlines. For some specials, you may visit as a guest only three times, then you must become a member.

Webflyer
www.webflyer.com

PlanetRider Says: The excellent Web Flyer does all of the work for you with its A-to-Z links to weekly cyber deals offered by the airlines, thoughtfully divided into National and International. Since it's organized by location, you may have to search a bit to find what you want--check "How To" and "FAQ" sections if you get lost! Bonus: weekly cyber deals for hotels and rental cars, too.

Frommer's/World of Travel Discounters
www.frommers.com/deals/

PlanetRider Says: Frommer's has rounded up dozens of consolidators for airfares, cruises, hotels and car rentals. Get Arthur Frommer's esteemed opinion about each one and then link over to see for your self. You can also sign up here for their daily "Vacation For Real People" newsletter, which usually includes some hot bargains of its own.

Bestfares
www.bestfares.com

PlanetRider Says: It costs $59.95 to be a member, but guests can take advantage of many of the offers and links (look for the bright yellow "FREE" symbol). Bestfares has many diverse offerings, from "Snooze You Lose Fares" to "Weekly Net Specials", and links galore. We wish it was entirely free, but it won't cost you a dime to browse, and subscribers get alot of bang for the buck, including extra hotel and car rental discounts.

Smarter Living Discount Travel Specials
www.smarterliving.com/index.html

PlanetRider Says: Smarter Living offers up to the minute deals for deep airfare, hotel, and auto rental discounts. Explore the "Deal Alert!" section on their site, or have the specials e-mailed right to your desktop. We especially love the searchable list of the airlines own weekly cyber deals, superbly organized and conveniently customized to the airport of your choosing ("Internet Airfares", also available via e-mail). Smarter Living makes bargain travel so easy to plan, who knows where you may be jetting off to this weekend?

SkyAuction
www.skyauction.com/

PlanetRider Says: One-dollar-one-dollar-one-dollar! That's right, bids at this online travel auctioneer start at one US buck. Of course, prices do rise quickly after the first bid, but there are great bargains aplenty ranging from airline seats to hotel rooms to complete travel packages for exotic worldwide destinations. If you aren''t auction-savvy, SkyAuction's a good place to start since the offer is clearly spelled out beforehand, unlike the Priceline method.

Automobile Bargains (back to top)

OneTravel/Car Whiz
www.1travel.com

PlanetRider Says: Part of the One Travel discount conglomerate, their nifty search is easy and fast. Listing for most major locations and companies, and you can book online. The prices didn't seem that low, so we suggest shopping around before you book.

www.onetravel.com/1travel/cruisemailing/index.cfm

PlanetRider Says: Fill out a detailed profile and receive "Best Cruise Deals of the Week" update. You can also request price quotes for specific routes to be sent to you. Worth a try.

Bestfares.com
www.bestfares.com

PlanetRider Says: Although Bestfares sells subscriptions, guests make out very well in their comprehensive lodging section, and are able to access most deals and links. They serve up many types of special offers (make sure to check the fine print, not all offers posted are available).

The Travel Company
www.mytravelco.com/cruises/

PlanetRider Says: The Travel Company does cruises well, with discounts for all of the major cruise lines, conveniently organized by destination. Get competitive price quotes online, and also explore sections designed to make your first (or tenth) cruise experience easier: "First Cruise?", tips, cruise reviews, and more.

LowestFare/Cruises
www.lowestfare.com

PlanetRider Says: LowestFare features bargain airfares and vacation packages, too, but we like their cruise section best (you don't have to log in just to get the basic info, as you do forairfares). You'll need a sense of adventure to access the rest of this busy looking site, but it's smooth sailing if you stick to cruises.

HotelNet Discount Directory
www.hotelnetdiscount.com

PlanetRider Says: Access to HotelNet's listings are free, and they serve up deals for the US and international destinations. Special discount coupons make a visit here even more worthwhile.
