The Library of Congress has more than enough vintage maps to keep you busy. Sophisticated navigation lets you search by subject, creator, or geographic location within any category. Check out panoramic maps in North America and maps of military battles, to name a few. You can zoom in on maps or conveniently download them.

Get close to Yale's antiquarian and historic maps on this simple site. Choose a region and browse through map titles, authors, and dates. Then view scanned copies of this collection of beautiful maps and globes. But if you want to get closer, you'll have to visit Yale.

For such a great set of maps, this Bodleian Library site is sadly lacking bulk. Very few maps are listed within the "Map Case." But what is there is definitely worth seeing. You get close-up views of beautiful antiquarian maps. Click "About the images" for details on each map.

Time to travel back to the world of 14th Century mapmakers. Click the map name for a thumbnail and caption, and click once more for a closer view. Too bad readers can't get even closer, though, because these maps are fascinating.
