The Official New York City Web Site
As befits the City of New York's official site, there's a huge amount of practical and colorful info crammed in here. We may be biased, but we found the site to be both useful and endlessly fascinating, with business news, NYC history, dozens of neighborhood and events links, and even transcripts of Mayor Giuliani's many news conferences. Really helpful? Links to dozens of city agencies and government offices. The only thing we couldn't find were the squeegee guys....

The Official Tourism Site of New York City
Get the basics on the Big Apple with this official web site of the New York Convention & Visitors Bureau. Use search engines for hotels, restaurants, nightlife and more--but they're not particularly comprehensive. Still, it's worth exploring the sections here.

Papermag
Thick on neon flash and dash, this web site for Manhattan's magazine for the young-hip-cool is fun to cruise, but don't expect interface efficiency. Reviews of clubs are knowledgeable if tony, and perhaps a bit wannabee "downtown," but then maybe you are, too.

The Village Voice Online
The city's premier underground newspaper (now free in Manhattan)--great for style, attitude, listings and avant-garde orientation. Anyone looking for an apartment should look here first and make your calls fast.
