One of the best-designed and most comprehensive museum Web sites we've ever seen. Check out the virtual tours (plugin required), or simply browse the collection. This site is surely a fitting tribute to what some people have called "the American Louvre."

The Smithsonian Institute
What can we say... it's the Smithsonian! Although SI has facilities in various parts of the United States (the Cooper-Hewitt and Museum of the American Indian are in New York), most of the Smithsonian's collections are housed right on the National Mall in Washington. This page lists links to all the SI collections and research centers.
